US Sanctions Chinese Firms Over Iran Links Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit
Ahead of a planned summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the United States has imposed new sanctions on Chinese companies. The State Department sanctioned firms for allegedly providing satellite imagery used in Iranian strikes in the Middle East. Furthermore, the Treasury Department designated individuals and companies accused of helping Iran procure missile and drone materials. These actions follow previous U.S. sanctions on Chinese refineries buying Iranian oil, prompting strong pushback from Beijing. China maintains that the sanctions are illegal and unilateral.
