Curiosity Rover Finds New Organic Molecules on Mars
The Curiosity rover has detected a diverse set of organic molecules, including seven previously unknown compounds, within Martian rock samples. These findings, published in *Nature Communications*, suggest that complex organic matter has been preserved on Mars for billions of years, bolstering the theory that the planet was once habitable. The analysis was conducted using a pioneering wet chemistry technique on-site. While the results are highly significant, scientists caution that definitive proof of ancient life requires returning Martian samples to Earth for laboratory analysis. This discovery reinforces the scientific push for sample return missions to answer humanity's question regarding life beyond Earth.
