Cole Allen has agreed to waive his right to challenge his detention in jail pending trial on charges related to the alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. This decision was confirmed during a hearing at the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia on Thursday.
Legal Proceedings and Waiver
Allen's decision to waive his challenge to detention represents a reversal of his defense team's earlier intentions, which had been filed in a court document on Wednesday night.
During the hearing, Allen's attorney, Tezira Abe, informed Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya that "He's conceding detention at this time."
Prosecution's Stance
Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney's office, represented by Jeanine Pirro, had previously filed a motion urging the court to keep the 31-year-old California resident detained without bond until the trial could take place.
Background of Charges
The charges stem from an incident that occurred at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner held over the previous weekend.
