US-Iran Clash in Strait of Hormuz: Claims of First Strike
Open hostilities erupted in the Strait of Hormuz between the United States and Iran late Thursday. The conflict arose as three U.S. Navy destroyers passed through the strategically vital waterway. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes after intercepting alleged unprovoked attacks from Iran. CENTCOM further claimed that Iranian forces launched missiles, drones, and small boats while the U.S. vessels were en route to the Gulf of Oman. Both nations are involved in a dispute over who initiated the military action.
