Ethiopia's $12.5B Airport Plan: Africa's Aviation Hub?
Ethiopia is developing the Bishoftu International Airport, a $12.5 billion project intended to establish the nation as Africa's leading aviation hub by 2030. The facility is designed for 60 million passengers annually and aims to boost intra-African connectivity and cargo trade. While Ethiopian Airlines is leading the effort, securing the remaining $8 billion in funding remains a key challenge. Experts caution that the airport's success is heavily dependent on resolving community grievances, robust policy execution, and the advancement of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
