Police reported that a suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's home in North Beach early Friday morning. The attack occurred at approximately 4 a.m., causing a fire to an exterior gate. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
Threat to OpenAI Headquarters
Approximately one hour after the residential attack, law enforcement responded to a separate incident involving a man threatening arson at the AI company's San Francisco office. Authorities recognized the individual involved in the headquarters threat as the same suspect who attacked Altman's home.
Police Response and Arrest
San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers responded to both scenes. Following the second incident, officers detained and arrested the 20-year-old male suspect. Charges related to the attack and threat are currently pending.
OpenAI confirmed the incident and issued a statement emphasizing the swift response of the SFPD, noting that no injuries were reported during the attacks. The company stated it is fully cooperating with law enforcement to assist with the ongoing investigation.
