FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the Iranian national team is confirmed to participate in the upcoming World Cup, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States. Speaking at the CNBC Invest in America Forum, Infantino emphasized the importance of keeping sports separate from political conflicts.
Confirmation of Iranian Participation
Infantino stated that the Iranian team is definitely attending the tournament. He noted that while the situation ideally should be peaceful, the team has qualified and the players are eager to compete.
During his address, Infantino highlighted the need for international sports to maintain a separation from political disputes, stating, “Sports should be outside of politics now.” He acknowledged the difficulty of this separation, noting that while humanity lives on Earth, the effort to build and maintain bridges remains crucial.
