Egypt’s Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, held a crucial meeting with the Committee on Local Administration, led by Engineer Ahmed El-Sagini, to discuss 22 key files related to local administration and citizen needs. The meeting, which lasted over three hours, covered critical topics such as the Local Administration Law, Urban Planning System, and Solid Waste Management System.Dr. Awad emphasized the importance of coordination between the Ministry of Local Development and the committee to provide better services to citizens. She stated, “We will continue to follow up on the committee’s recommendations and work to implement them, simplifying and facilitating procedures related to local administrations, including the settlement of building violations and permits”.In a parallel development, the Local Development Program in Upper Egypt has made significant strides, with Dr. Awad announcing the implementation of 5,130 projects with a total investment of 22.2 billion Egyptian pounds. These projects, being executed in collaboration with the World Bank, aim to support integrated local development through infrastructure improvements and enhanced local administration policies.Meanwhile, the Central Agency for Reconstruction is spearheading 32 projects in Alexandria with a total cost of 18 billion Egyptian pounds. These projects include crucial road infrastructure developments such as the Omar Suleiman Axis and the expansion of Alexandria’s Corniche, which are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and link the city to new urban extensions.In efforts to protect state resources, Dr. Awad also reported on the ongoing campaign to remove encroachments on state-owned lands. The minister announced that 1,634 buildings have been removed, covering an area of 423,000 square meters, as part of the second phase of the 23rd wave of land encroachment removal campaigns.These multifaceted initiatives reflect Egypt’s commitment to comprehensive urban development, improved local governance, and the protection of state resources across various regions of the country.
