Egypt Sets Stage for Inclusive and Rigorous General Secondary Exams Amidst Educational Reforms

As Egypt approaches the start date of the General Secondary Certificate Exams on June 10th, 2024, Education Minister Dr. Reda Hegazy has affirmed the country’s readiness to facilitate the exams for a record 745,086 students. Dr. Hegazy has urged students to ensure their personal data is accurate and to report any errors to the exam committees. The exams, which will be held across 1981 committees, have been meticulously planned to include specific arrangements for 38 students with cancer, 255 visually impaired students, and 3,306 students with special needs, among others to ensure inclusivity and fair access to all candidates.The exam format has been detailed by the ministry, with a mix of multiple-choice and essay questions in subjects such as Islamic Education, National Education, Economics, and Statistics. Dr. Hegazy has also highlighted that the exam questions will cater to different levels of difficulty to challenge and accurately assess students’ knowledge. In addition, the ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Higher Education to merge the scientific and literary branches in the new high school system, indicating a significant shift in the educational approach.The Ministry of Education remains vigilant in upholding the integrity of the examination process, particularly following the probe into the question leak incident. With the exams covering core subjects as well as languages and sciences, the ministry has ensured that all committees are fully prepared to receive students and that the exams will be conducted under the highest standards of supervision.
